When it comes to things to see and do, you’re spoilt for choice in the UK. This place is bursting with history and culture at every turn. And when you’re not exploring its castles and ancient sights, you’ll be visiting its modern and vibrant cities, or even paying a visit to a theme park or two.
Things to see and do in the UK
Stonehenge
One of the most famous and mysterious sights in the world, Stonehenge dates from 2500 BC and is today a World Heritage Site. Lying 60 kilometres to the south east of Bristol this collection of Neolithic stones is believed by many to have been used either as a temple to the sun or as an astronomical observatory.
London Eye
See London like you’ve never seen it before, from a 135 metre Ferris wheel! One of London’s top attractions, quite literally, the 30-minute ride takes you up and over London and gives you some breathtaking views of the city. This is a good place to start off your trip, get your bearings, and come up with some ideas of what to see next!
St Paul’s Cathedral London
One of the world’s most famous cathedrals, St Paul’s was built in the 17th century by Christopher Wren and is an unmistakable part of the London skyline. With its spectacular dome and famous Whispering Gallery, this is a must-see for any visitor to London. Climb right to the very top of the dome and enjoy one of the best views of the city you’re likely to find!
Edinburgh Castle
Often said to be the symbol of Scotland, this castle has stood overlooking Edinburgh for more than 500 years. Inside visitors will get to see the Crown Room, the Scottish crown jewels and the National War Museum, which is now housed in the castle.
Hadrian’s Wall
The Romans built this World Heritage Site almost 2,000 years ago to keep out the Scottish tribes. Today the wall that stretches from Newcastle to Carlisle boasts 14 major forts and museums, in addition to numerous mile-castles and turrets to explore.
Alton Towers
The UK’s largest theme park is just 60 kilometres north of Birmingham. Expect a huge number of ‘thrill rides’ for the bigger kids and an equal number of gentler ones for mum and dad. You can even stay overnight in one of the hotels and check out the waterpark the following day.
