Things to see and do in Malaga
La Alcazaba
No it's not the word to accompany a spell, but it is one of Spain's most important Moorish remains. Back in its heyday this 11th century fortress boasted three palaces and over 100 towers. It still impresses today and gives some amazing views over the city.
Picasso Museum
Any trip to the Spanish painter's hometown wouldn't be complete without a visit to this popular museum. Check out some old classics, plus an array of ceramics and sketches by the master. Free on the last Sunday of every month.
Malaga Cathedral
It took them a whopping 200 years to build, but it was worth it in the end. Enjoy the Renaissance and Baroque styles of this richly decorated cathedral built to celebrate the Spanish defeat of the Moors. One of Malaga's great sights.
Plaza Merced
If you fancy shaking your thing then head down to the old city centre around Plaza Merced where the busiest of the bars and clubs are. Don't hit the town too early though, before 10pm you'll find youself drinking alone
Semana Santa
This festival during the week of Easter is one of the biggest in Spain and sees thousands of visitors from all over the world descend on the city. Even if you're not religious it's worth a visit to soak up the atmosphere and marvel at the street processions.
Tivoli World
One for the kids now. This theme park is action-packed full of rides, restaurants and daily shows ranging from flamenco dancing to kids' ballet. Enough to keep both young and old entertained. Located between Fuengirola and Torremolinos along the A-7.
Torremolinos
Head 16km south west of Malaga and you'll come across the busy resort of Torremolinos. Here you'll find sandy beaches by the bucket load, waterparks, restaurants and every other kind of tourist attraction you can think of.
