There really is nowhere quite like Paris. New York may have the buzz and London may have the nightlife, but Paris has the romance, the architecture and the food.

The ‘City of Light’ has long been the preferred city break destination for doe-eyed couples who come for the unrivalled architecture, the quality of its restaurants and romantic night cruises down the River Seine. But there is more to Paris than just the language of love. This place is also the capital of fashion, haute cuisine and is one of the most culturally rich cities in the world. Paris is full of galleries dripping with artistic masterpieces and streets filled with some of the most iconic buildings in the world. Anyone fancy a trip to the top of the Eiffel Tower, or a walk along the Champs Elysées with its endless array of designer stores?

There is more to Paris than just the language of love.

Like all big cities the question is where to start? How about with the Mona Lisa at the Louvre, or some contemporary classics at the Centre Pompidou? Then there is always the Picasso Museum, Notre Dame Cathedral and the Musée d’Orsay with its Impressionist masterpieces – the list really is endless. And whether you’re exploring the winding lanes of the Latin Quarter or people watching in the upmarket streets of St-Germain or Montmartre, one thing is for sure, you’ll never be too far away from a good meal. Not only is Paris synonymous with style, but it’s famous for good food too. From freshly baked croissants in the morning and baked camembert with baguettes for lunch to foie-gras and steak cooked so well you can cut through it like butter. What’s more, it’s all surprisingly affordable – at least the bank manager will be kept happy.

Summer or winter, you’ll find this place brimming with things to do. The beach isn’t the first thing that springs to mind when you think of the French capital, but come in July and August and you’ll see just that, as 3 kilometres of the banks of the Seine are transformed into sandy swathes. Who needs the French Riviera when you have this? And during Christmas, Paris gets into the festive spirit as it’s transformed into a winter wonderland full of lights, decorations and ice-skating rinks. Oh, and did we mention Disneyland Paris? If you’re coming with the little ones, then this really is a must at any time of the year.

Tips

. . .
1/3

Invest in a Paris Museum Pass and you’ll gain free entry to more than 60 museums and monuments across the city. What’s more, you won’t have to queue.

2/3

If you’re after some of the city’s best array of antiques, and second-hand clothes, head to Paris’ most famous flea market, the Marché aux Puces de St-Ouen,. All you have to do is get off at Métro Porte de Clignancourt.

3/3

For some of the hippest nightlife, head down to the Marais where you’ll find a large number of Paris’ trendier bars. For something a little more traditional, check out the Latin Quarter with its student-style bars.
