Nice weather

Nice is well known and loved for its Mediterranean climate, which is pretty balmy all year round. There’s very little rain, and what little there is falls primarily between October and February. The summer months are dry and sunny, with average temperatures peaking at around 27 degrees, although highs can reach into the low 30s. So if you like the heat and are after some beach action then this is the time to come. This period does get busy however, so coming in the milder spring can be a good compromise.

Nice festivals and events

February – March:  If the Nice summer is too hot for you, coming in the winter months will see you just in time for the city’s spectacular carnival. The Nice Carnival is enormously popular, with processions, flower parades, concerts and fireworks.

April:  Head to Nice in the spring to catch the Nice Short Film Festival, a showcase of independent filmmakers’ work that takes place across the city.

September:  The San Bertoumiéu Fête is a rich and tasty slice of Nice culture that sees the old town taken over by food producers, winemakers and craftsmen keen to show and sell you their wares.

December:  Come to Nice around Christmas to experience the spectacular Christmas Fair in the Place Massena. Expect to find everything from traditional crafts, gifts and regional treats and, of course, a very festive atmosphere.

Tips

. . .
1/3

While the beach in Nice is, ahem, nice, it’s also shingle, which isn’t to everyone’s taste. For sandy beaches head to the friendly resort of Juan le Pins, a mere 30 minutes train journey away.

2/3

See the Côte d’Azure from a different perspective and hop on one of the cruises that departs from Nice to St Tropez. It’s an easy and picturesque way to get to the fancy resort, which doesn’t have a train station or an airport.

3/3

Watch out for pickpockets. While you won’t find violent crime along the Côte d’Azure you will find some petty crime. Be careful in touristy areas, make sure your handbags are zipped shut and never put your wallet in your back pocket.
