Things to see and do in Nice

Parc du Chateau

Parc du Château

While the chateau is long gone, the hilltop park is a perfect spot for picnics and hosts open air concerts in the summer months. From its shaded confines you can see staggering views of Nice and the Mediterranean Sea.

Musee D'art moderne

Musée d'Art Moderne et d'Art Contemporain

Step out of the sun for an afternoon and explore the remarkable Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. Architecturally impressive, it’s also full of some fantastic modern art, with everything from Lichtenstein to Warhol.

Musee Matisse

The Musée Matisse

If Matisse is more your taste, head to this Genoese villa just north of the city centre where you’ll find an excellent collection of his work. The artist himself used to spend his winters in Nice up until his death, so this gallery has particular poignancy and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city.

Nice old town

Old Town

Nice’s old town, or Vieux Nice, is a charming warren of old fashioned streets, stairwells and alleyways huddled beneath the hill. Here you’ll get a taste of Nice as it was in the past, with beautiful houses and captivating little boutiques. There are also daily fruit and flower markets, which complete the atmosphere.

Blue beach

Blue Beach

This private beach in the heart of Nice is a great place to take the little ones. You’ll find plenty of family-friendly activities, playgrounds, child-friendly pools and lots of cafes and restaurants for mum and dad.

Diving 2

Diving

There’s some great diving to be had around Nice, with a number of diving operators offering excursions and beginners courses. A good place to start is the Quai de Lunel, where you’ll find several of the major operators’ headquarters.

Tips

. . .
1/3

While the beach in Nice is, ahem, nice, it’s also shingle, which isn’t to everyone’s taste. For sandy beaches head to the friendly resort of Juan le Pins, a mere 30 minutes train journey away.

2/3

See the Côte d’Azure from a different perspective and hop on one of the cruises that departs from Nice to St Tropez. It’s an easy and picturesque way to get to the fancy resort, which doesn’t have a train station or an airport.

3/3

Watch out for pickpockets. While you won’t find violent crime along the Côte d’Azure you will find some petty crime. Be careful in touristy areas, make sure your handbags are zipped shut and never put your wallet in your back pocket.
