Lyon weather

The climate in Lyon is continental and so you can expect hot summers and cool winters. The summer months are obviously the best time to come, with average highs peaking at around 27 degrees in August complete with 10 hours of sunshine. Located in the Rhone Valley, Lyon experiences slightly more precipitation than other French cities. Rain showers can strike at anytime, although spring is the wettest time to visit, so bring an umbrella. While winters can be on the chilly side, temperatures rarely dip below zero, but with all the cultural goodies to experience in this city, the weather will be the last thing on your mind.

May:  Get dancing, it’s the Nuits Sonores Electronic Music Festival. All sorts of high-grade electro acts fill Lyon’s music venues and outdoor spaces.

June-July:  If you’re more into your rock, head to Les Nuits de Fourvière, where you’ll find rock music and some innovative theatres in the Roman Fourvière Amphitheatres overlooking Lyon.

June-September:  Get out in the sun for Tout l'Monde Dehors, a three-month arts festival of music, comedy, film and fairs that takes place in the city streets.

Tips

. . .
1/3

Invest in a Lyon City Card and you’ll be entitled to free public transport, free entry into selected museums and free access to guided tours of the city.

2/3

Check out Annecy, also known as the Venice of Savoie due to its magnificent network of small canals. This town is as picture postcard perfect as you can get and looks like it came fresh out of a fairytale.

3/3

For shopping, hit Rue Victor Hugo and Rue de la République  if you’re after high street stores. For something a little more upmarket check out Rue Emile Zola and Rue Gasparin, which rival anything you’ll find in Paris.
