As you would expect from a city at the foot of the Alps, Grenoble’s experiences both extremes when it comes to the weather. Summers can be gloriously sunny with average temperatures into the mid-20s. By winter, the surrounding mountains are snow-clad and perfect for skiing with temperatures dropping to close to zero. Grenoble becomes a winter wonderland and is a magical place to visit during December and January. If you’re after some more summery pursuits, the best time to capitalise on a warm Grenoble weather forecast is between May and September.

Grenoble festivals and events

March:  Get your jazz on at the Grenoble Jazz Festival. International jazz and blues artists flock to the city to make some great noises in theatres, museums and pretty much any space available.

March-April:  Grenoble’s Easter Fair sees a spectacular fairground takeover the city’s esplanade. Expect more than 50 different rides and all manner of stalls and treats for kids and adults alike.

July:  A laid-back summer festival by the pool, Caberet Frappé brings together world music, all sorts of outdoor entertainment and free chaise longue rental. Perfect for the long summer days.

December:  All manner of piano playing styles from jazz to classical take place at the Grenoble Piano Festival, held in the Théâtre Ste-Marie D'en Bas.

If you’re wanting to do some shopping while in Grenoble, head to Place Grenette. This is the pedestrianised centre of the city and its here that you’ll find all the city’s boutique shops, not to mention a good handful of high street stores.
