Corsica weather

The climate in Corsica is typically Mediterranean, so expect long hot summers and short mild winters. During the summer months, the island experiences average temperatures of around 28 degrees along the coastal regions. Inland, among the mountains, temperatures tend to be a few degrees lower, however. Like most Mediterranean destinations the best time to go is in spring or autumn when the weather is warm but not too hot. Of course, if you like your beaches baking and worship the sun then there is no better time to come than summer.

Corsica festivals and events

April:  Soak up some sun and an array of catchy jazzy beats at Bastia's Festival Jazz Equinoxe.

July:  Clubbers descend on Calvi’s beaches in July for Calvi on the Rocks, a beach party like no other, with DJs mixing tunes until sunrise.

August:  To celebrate the birth of Napoleon Bonaparte in Ajaccio in 1769, Corsica gets together for the Fêtes Napoléoniènnes. You’ll see huge parades, period costume, classical music and firework displays all in honour of the man himself.

September: Get the blood racing at the annual Inter-Island Windsurf Race, or Défi Inter-Iles. It kicks off at the Club de Voile de Bonifacio and participants race the 15 kilometres to Sardinia. You can register to take part, or just enjoy the food, drink and celebration before and after.

For the most dramatic views of the island, head to the Gulf of Porto. This part of Corsica is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is packed with jagged mountains soaring out of the turquoise seas.

Check out some of Europe’s oldest megalithic structures at the ancient site of Filitosa, on the island. These mysterious structures are representations of humans and date back to around 1500 BC.

When in Corsica, you have to try its famous variety of cured meats. Top of the list are figatellu (liver sausage), salamu (salami), boudin (black pudding) and its smoked ham called prisutu.
