Vienna weather

The weather in Vienna is as close to perfect as you could expect from a European city. Summers are warm with average temperatures peaking between 22 and 26 degrees, while winters are fairly chilly, with the mercury hovering around zero. The best time to go for the good weather is summer, but spring and autumn are refreshingly brisk to mild, and crowds are thinner. Vienna’s weather forecasts will show most snowfall between December and March, so keep this in mind if you’re looking to get stuck in to some winter sports or want to see the city blanketed in snow.

Vienna festivals and events

April:  In April, Vienna’s museums throw open their doors until midnight for the Long Night of the Museums, when you’ll find all sorts of atmospheric evening tours and entertainments taking place.

May-June:  The Vienna Festival is one of Vienna’s most popular and varied events and draws hundreds of thousands of visitors to the city. There are all sorts of plays, concerts, performances, films and talks on offer.

July-September:  July sees the Summer of Music begin, when concerts and all kinds of performances take place around the city centre.

October:  Viennale, the Vienna International Film Festival, begins in late October and is an extremely popular festival with screenings talks, and award ceremonies. Keep an eye out for the stars!

Tips

. . .
1/3

A trip to Vienna wouldn’t be complete without trying the local delicacy Wiener Schnitzel. The dish is either a veal or pork escalope coated in breadcrumbs and fried served with potatoes or a salad. Yum!

2/3

Experience Christmas unlike anywhere else in Vienna. The whole city becomes one big Christmas decoration with festive markets galore, Christmas trees on mass, and even present and cake making workshops for the little ones. Magical!

3/3

Take a trip 36 kilometres north to the World Heritage Site that is the region of Wachau on the banks of the Danube. This area of exquisite beauty features endless vineyards, fairytale villages, monasteries and hilltop castles.
