Things to see and do in Vienna
Hofburg Palace
This vast palace began life as a medieval castle and today houses the Austrian President’s offices. Within its numerous buildings you’ll find all sorts of wonderful objects, and several museums, including the Imperial Apartments, the Imperial Silver Collection, and the Sisi Museum. No sightseeing trip to Vienna would be complete without a visit to this spectacular building
Museum of Fine Arts
Another palace for you, only this one is home to the art collection of the Habsburg family, one of the finest collections in the world. This place is enormous, so if you want to see everything it might take you more than a day. This museum is not to be missed.
Donauturm
Get up high for a good look at Vienna from above – 252 metres above to be precise. The Danube Tower is in Donaupark, and offers you some mind-blowing views of the city and its surroundings from its revolving restaurant.
Naschmarkt
Vienna is awash with spectacular market places, and the Naschmarkt is one of its best. Spices, antiques, curiosities, great food – you name it, you’ll find it in this market by Kettenbruckengasse station.
Tram tours
Hop aboard one of Vienna’s old-style 1930’s trams and take a tour of the city from this nicely atmospheric vantage. Most depart from the Otto Wagner Stadtbahn Pavilions on Karlsplatz.
Shopping
Pick up some gifts for friends back home, or forget about them and buy yourself a load of luxuries. You’ll find the most popular shopping street in Vienna is Mariahilferstraße and here you’ll find the big flagship stores for all sorts of global brands. If you’re looking for the chic and unique, head to the upmarket Kohlmarkt.
